Thrift store find of the moment: Sweet vintage green velvet coat

Ok guys, this is a seriously cool find.

If you follow me on Instagram, you got to see a sneak peek of this coat in a slightly different outfit. I found this gem during the post-Halloween thrift store hunting I like to do, which means I comb through all the rejected costumes looking for actual cool vintage pieces. This coat was way more expensive then anything I usually pick up at thrift (my cap being about $10, generally) but it was completely worth it. Check out more fabulousness below, and click through for details and to find out what I spent on the whole thing!

Vintage green velvet coat: Thrifted, $20 // Jeans: Thrifted Gap, $6 // Booties (kind of pictured): Carlos Santana thrifted, $6 // T-shirt: F21 (old) $12 // Earrings: DIY // Necklaces: gift from my husband (silver) & F21, $8 // Bracelet: thrifted, $0.50 // Midi rings: F21 $1.50

outfit total: $54

So after researching this piece, it turns out, this is most likely a men's Indian Sherwani (or Achkan), basically an overcoat. Probably for a wedding, because it's made of actual silk velvet and hand embroidered with metal thread. It's insane! I can't even tell you how heavy this thing is, the drape would make the most hardened fabric junkies weep. It clearly cost someone a lot of money in materials, and way, way more time.

Guys, someone donated this thing to a thrift store!! Yeah, I bought it. It's mine now. I will keep it forever, precious...

Thanks for checking out my favorite find from the last few weeks, this thing is going to get a lot of rotation in the coming holiday party circuit, for sure! I'll try and remember to take pictures. If you want to see a few of my other outfits or thrift store finds you can find those here, and Happy Holidays everyone!
