You may have noticed, but I really love wearing black. Kind of a lot. Honestly before moving to Boise a good 75% of my closet was some shade between black and white. I've learned a thing or two since then, but I still fine myself gravitating towards black all the time (I mean, even my hair is black!) but especially in the summer months, wearing all black can be a tricky thing. But not impossible!
Today I'm sharing my foolproof five tips for making black work for summer, so that you can break out your beloved black clothes right along with me, even when temps are high!
Keep reading for my five favorite tips to add some black to your look during the hot summer months!
1. Keep your pieces summery!
Breezy shorts and tanks help make black look like it belongs in the summer months. No heavy textures, knits or long sleeves! Keep those for when the temperature starts to drop.
2. Incorporate a pattern
Add in a pattern to break up all that...well...black. These shorts have a small scale white on black pattern (and those tiny pom-poms at the hem!) that keeps the outfit interesting and lightens it up.
3. Add boho touches
Little things like the leather tassel bag charm and those adorable tiny pom-poms help lighten the mood of the solid dark color and bring some summer into your look.
4. wear nude shoes
I mean, who doesn't love a good nude shoe? Apart from the obvious fact that they make your legs look longer and leaner, a nude shoe helps keep your eyes on your outfit, and keeps your feel from looking too 'heavy.'
5. Minimal makeup and relaxed hair
If you're wearing all black in summer, let your bold choice of shade be the star. Keep your lips neutral and your eyes natural for day. Let your hair be loose and casual, it helps detract from black's natural formal feeling.
One final tip, though it's not an official one: Don't be afraid to get colorful with your accessories! This adorable four year old boy for instance, adds just the right touch of lively color to an all black ensemble, and brightens up the whole look. Of course that could just be how cute he is, but I'm biased, being his mom. Those dimples make any outfit complete!
